A Brief History of Womens Council of REALTORS®

|
|
In 1924, most local real estate associations were resistant to women in the real estate industry and also as participants in the local associations. On a train ride home from the National Associations convention in Washington D.C., several members of the California Real Estate Association formed a Womens Division. Fourteen years later, Joseph Catherine, the 1938 president of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (now the National Association Of Realtors) was impressed with the potential of women in real estate and encouraged the formation of the Womens Council. Local Associations were still resistant to women, but the National Association of REALTORS® was ready to recognize women in the industry and a positive vote resulted in the formation of a womens division at the annual Convention held in Milwaukee in November, 1938. Thirty-seven women represented 9 states at that meeting, and the Womens Council of REALTORS® was born!
There are now more than 300 chapters with over 12,000 members, men and women who support the objectives of WCR and serve the industry, the community and their fellow REALTORS® |

"I have been a member of South Orange County Chapter since 2000. Prior to that,
I was a member of Fayette County Chapter in Georgia for many years.
WCR helps me stay connected and feel part of a bigger picture. I have grown
personally and professionally by joining and doing. Most of all I have made
important contacts and friends. Yes, it is a good feeling that when you get involved in a transaction with other agents they are familiar to you, not a stranger.
I can truly say that I have benefited by being a part of WCR." Alexia "Lex" Williams - Evergreen Realty & Assoc., Inc., Irvine
of Prudential CA. Realty
I joined WCR as an Affiliate Member, and immediately enjoyed the networking opportunities offered in a very intimate environment. The group was from a diverse geographical area, which offered me insight to areas I had not considered. As a REALTOR member I continue to enjoy the network of professionals that covers a wide area in South Orange County. WCR offers me an invaluable resource
to tap into when I am working with clients in areas I am unfamiliar with. It gives me confidence to know that I am offering my clients a wider expertise than I possibly could without access to this network of REALTOR professionals and affiliated service providers
Jane Dempsey - McMillion Fox of Prudential Realty
"I love real estate but I am PASSIONATE about WCR!
Becoming a member of WCR opened so many doors for me! I just loved the camaraderie and networking of my local Chapter
however, I truly GREW as a REALTOR® when I also visited other Chapters.
Through WCR South Orange County, I was able to continue my real estate education and stay up to date with changing laws
through the many, dynamic and informative speakers for which I would otherwise have had to pay.
Attending State and National conferences added more knowledge and doubled my income through referrals to/from other
States!"
Janet DePerry, CRS, SRES, President Elect, Realty One Group
